Snowblower Maintenance

I hate to break it to you but winter is here in full force. So it’s time to talk about snowblower maintenance. If you didn’t do pre-season maintenance then you better take the time to get out your snowblower now and make sure it’s running properly. The last thing you want is to wake up to 12 inches of fresh snow and find out your snowblower won’t start. Trust me, I’ve been there and it’s no fun!

Snowblower Maintenance

Snowblower maintenance is really no different than maintenance for a lawn mower. Each season you should:

• change the oil filter and oil
• install a new spark plug
• replace the air filter
• replace the fuel filter and fill with fresh clean gas
• check the belts for wear and replace if signs of wear are present
• lubricate the drive and chassis assemblies

Snowblower Safety

This is also a good time to review snowblower safety. Each year snowblower accidents cause serious injuries including loss of fingers and toes.

• always operate snowblowers that are in good working condition
• never disengage snowblower safety mechanisms
• never reach into a running snowblower to remove plugged up snow, turn the machine off before removing the snow
• never allow children to operate snowblowers
