Window Treatments Save Heating Costs

The weather here in NH this week is COLD! It feels like January right now and the cold temperatures have me thinking about ways to save money on my energy bills. The windows in your home are probably the weakest link in the thermal envelope.

By using window treatments properly in the winter months you can help saving money on your energy bills. Placing heavy curtain or window shades can help keep out drafts and cold that penetrates the glass panes. During the day south facing window treatments should be opened to let the sun help warm the room.

Thermal Window Panels (Curtains)

The simplest solution is just plane window blinds. If you want a more effective solution you can install curtains or even heavier quilted curtains (sometimes called window quilts). You can buy Thermal Window Panels from Amazon for a very reasonable price. Placing the window treatments in front of your windows is really no different than wearing a sweater or coat. The same window treatments can even help keep the sun out in the summer to help keep your home cooler.
