This is why you should consider buying the Smart Strip LCG3 Energy Saving With Autoswitching Technology. This power strip is designed to monitor the use of electricity from the devices connected to is and automatically shut down the power. Connecting one of these autoswitching power strips to your electronics can save you a significant amount of electricity and money.
Leaving even a printer and monitor plugged in and shut off can be the same as leaving a 60 watt light bulb turned on for the same period of time. So if you’re looking for an easy way to save some money on electricity then consider buying the Smart Strip Power Strip. These power strips are great surge protectors and they cost the same as a regular power strip.

Good idea! With winter heating just around the corner, I'll be looking to shave money off the utility bills any way I can. :-)
Plus, conservation is almost always a good thing.
I've thought about something similar for my 52" lcd tv. Sometimes I can hear it power on and off - not sure what it is doing. Since my tv is wall mounted and I've used a recessed electrical outlet - for a less corded install - I don't have room for a power bar behind the tv I was thinking about installing a GFCI upstream and just hitting the test button to keep the vampire power from going into the tv. Not a great solution but I didn't think to make the outlet a switched outlet. Ah well next time.
One issue I've heard is that some printers need to power down properly otherwise the ink dispenser can line up in a way such that ink dries on the tip and causes printing defects.
