Child Proofing Locks
Our daughter just turned one this spring and she’s finally walking and extremely curious. Because of her mobility and curiosity I’ve had to go back and make sure that all our cabinets are baby proofed. We’ve tried lots of different baby proofing products but I keep coming back to the same product. Safety 1st makes the Magnetic Tot Lok system that works extremely well!
The Safety 1st Magnetic Tot Lok is a really cool product that works with a powerful magnet which releases a hidden lock inside the cabinet. Check out the quick video I made of our locks showing how it works:
Installing Tot Lok
Installing the Safety 1st Tot Lok is really easy. You screw the magnetic latch to the door with the included mounting pattern. Then you screw the latch receiver to the door stile. When you close the door the latch catches the latch receiver and locks the door securely. To release the locking mechanism you simple hold the special magnetic over the latch area on the door and it releases the lock. It’s as simple as shown in the attached video.
Where To Buy Tot Lok
The Safety 1st Tot Lok isn’t cheap. However, after trying tons of other child locks I say these are totally worth the cost and ease of use! You can buy all the Tot Lok products at these links:
Safety 1st Tot Lok Review
I really can’t say enough good things about these locks. I like them because they work, they are easy to install and best of all they don’t damage or change the look of your cabinets. I feel very comfortable with my kids playing around the house knowing we have these locks on cabinets. In my opinion they are the best child locks on the market.
Oh, the days of babyproofing! My thoughts are with you!
Our oldest is 21 and our youngest is now five. (Four in between–yes, just one couple for 24 years!) I have to tell you that I’m relieved that we don’t have to worry quite so much about every single inch of our home. Nearly 22 years of paranoia can be emotionally draining!
For the first time, I feel comfortable in building a pool in our new home. Never thought I could do that. Ten years in Florida–no way could I do it. Now, I’m actually looking forward to it.
I keep thinking…only a few more years and I can take down baby gates…ahh the freedom we’ll have!!
Oh, baby gates are the WORST. Hah!
