Router Edge Guide Finished

Today I built my router edge guide and it worked great! Yesterday I posted a picture and drawing I found online of a do-it-yourself guide and today I made it in about an hour. This will work great for putting the rabbit on the edge of the 1×6 for my porch skirt.

As you can see the lower fence can be adjusted in and out depending on where you want the rabbit. I used a piece of 1×5 PVC trim for the fence because I know it won’t bend, warp, or split. The base is made out of a piece of 1/2″ MDO.

For the skirt I’m putting a 1″ wide by 3/8″ deep rabbit along the leading edge of the trim board. This way I can tuck the PVC lattice behind it and not have to nail it. PVC lattice has a tendency to warp when it expands so this way it can move back and forth inside the rabbit.

Here is a test piece I did and I’m really pleased with how easy this was. The big problem is the 1×6 is 18′ long and PVC trim is so flexible that it would be almost impossible to run it through the table saw or router table. This way I can lay the trim on the concrete floor in the garage and just run my new jig down the length of the trim.
