How To Remove Soap Scum – Shower Doors

How To Remove Soap Scum

Our new home has a fantastic large two person shower which is one of my favorite features in the entire house. However, the great glass shower door has become a real challenge to keep clean. Our problem is with really hard to clean soap scum on the glass shower door.

We’ve tried every product on the market that claims to clean soap scum with little to no luck. So after doing a bit of research I found a suggestion to try Dawn Dish Soap and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to clean stubborn soap scum.

Simply wet your Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with some Dawn Liquid Dish Soap and scrub the shower door. Trust me it was as simple as that and the results were absolutely amazing! Our soap scum cleaning problem is a thing of the past thanks to this really simple cleaning solution. I decided not to post before and after photos for fear that my wife might not like the public display of soap scum! You’ll have to take my word for it and try it on your shower door.

  • I love my magic erasers. I use them for everything. I even used them to remove scuff marks off my car. Yes it really worked.

  • Thank you for this post! We have the same problem with our double shower. I adore it, but the glass doors seem to constantly be covered in a soap scum haze! Can't wait to give this a try. On a related note, what product do you use to clean the actual shower? We have porcelain and slate tiles and were told we could only use pH neutral products, which don't get things as clean as I'd like. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • I had tried everything over the years to get soap scum off shower doors with no real success. Then I tried the magic erasers - they work great! I have never tried using them with Dawn, but they do the job just fine all by themselves. I also use them on the textured floor pan of the shower stall. Nothing else seemed to get the dirt off there, but it rubs off quickly with the magic eraser. Just make sure the floor is mostly dry first and the pad is damp. It doesn't work as well on a wet floor. I have not tried it on the walls. They are a smooth acrylic surface, and I would be concerned they would dull with the slight abrasiveness of the magic eraser.

  • I used the Magic eraser with Pamolive dishwashing liquid and it worked in a jiffy! It was great! I highly recommend this method.
