This spring I built several wooden raised bed vegetable gardens so we could finally start growing some of our own vegetables. Raised bed vegetable gardens offer several benefits including better drainage and better access for weeding and harvesting the vegetables.
Having the raised beds has made weeding much easier. The raised beds also keep everything contained so mowing the lawn is easy as well. Early in the spring we had to deal with frost and the raised beds were much easier to attach protective plastic to. I imagine that will come in handy this fall when the first frost happens as well.

I have been growing vegetables in raised beds now for a few years and have grown to love it. All you said above is definitely the case and I have been able to incorporate my vegetable garden into a flower garden closer to the house which makes it much easier to get to and work a little at the time.
Very nice. We did square foot gardening a couple of years ago and it was great. Will definitely repeat in the new house.

Have you tried Black Prince Tomatoes - an heirloom and very cool. Deep dark burgandy tomatoes. Got my own seed from a friends tomato from her garden then found a package of seeds at a "Common Ground" in Palo Alto, CA, Tasty and meaty!
