The walk-in closet was previously painted all white when we built the house. So there’s no need to prime the walls. I have about 2 gallons of Sherwin Williams eggshell paint left from the master bedroom walls. The color is Sherwin Williams “Butter Up” No. 6681. I’ll put two coats of paint on the walls today so the painting will be all done before I make a decision on the closet system and order the materials.
The walk-in closet will be really easy to paint. One tip I’d like to point out that I’ve shared before is to paint the trim first. In fact, don’t worry about getting the trim paint onto the wall a bit. When you paint the trim out onto the wall a little it actually makes it much easier to “cut-in” the wall paint up agains the trim. Give it a try and I think you’ll agree. This is true because most people use a semi-gloss or gloss paint on trim. When you paint out onto the wall a bit it makes it really easy to paint a nice clean line up against the trim when you put on the wall paint.
I’ll write another post after the painting is finished. Hopefully we’ll make up our minds on the closet products in the next day or so.

I work for a closet company. It makes all the difference in the world to prepare and paint the closet walls before the installation is done. One thing that's a must is to make sure you remove the cleat and shelves before painting. If you use a floor based system than consider removing the baseboard as well.
