Outdoor Fire Pit and Patio
Above are some 3D renderings that I made while planning this project. I used these to discuss the project with a landscaper. (Side Note: projects like this can be done as a DIY, however, they are quite complex and better suited for a professional.) The renderings really helped him understanding of what we were looking to do and also allowed him to develop a preliminary budget. From these renderings he and I were able to choose materials and fine tune the design and details.
DIY or Professional Landscaper?
For a project like this you’ll need to decide whether to go the DIY route and save some money or hire a professional and sit back and watch the magic happen. Building a significant patio and fire pit is hard work and requires a level of knowledge with respect to setting grades. It’s certainly possible but be prepared for a significant effort!
For our project we hired a local landscaper. Jim Andersen from JCB Designscapes was incredibly helpful and turned my concepts into reality. He and his crew did an exceptional job and never got tripped up by the complexity and challenges that I kept throwing at them. I can’t stress enough how important it is to spend some time getting references ahead of time for qualified contractors so you have a good experience like we did.
