And The Winner Is…..

First off let’s announce the winner of the 21-piece Makita Impact Gold set. Almost 300 entries and the winner is Henry Holt (please message me Henry so I can send you the prize). Congratulations to Henry and a big thanks to Makita and The Home Depot for sponsoring this giveaway.

Now let’s get on to my review of these great new accessories from Makita.

Makita’s Impact ready Gold Bit Set

The stress an impact driver puts on your bits is exactly the instant rotational power you need to quickly drive heavy duty professional grade fasteners. The only solution to prevent fastener stripping and bit wear is to modify the bits. So Makita did just that with their new Impact GOLD driver bit series.

To combat the wear on drill bit heads and stripping of fasteners Makita designed their bits with a tight and consistent fit with most fasteners. Additionally, the bits were developed with Xtreme Torsion Technology to flex to ease the sudden rotational forces delivered by an impact driver.

The 21-piece kit includes the following:

Includes: (1) Ultra Magnetic Torsion Insert Bit Holder   (1) #1 1″ Phillips Insert Bit (1) #3 Square Recess Bit   (13) #2 1″ Phillips Insert Bit (1) #15 Torx® Bit   (1) #3 1″ Phillips Insert Bit (1) #20 Torx® Bit   (1) #2 Square Recess Bit (1) #25 Torx® Bit

Makita Impact GOLD 21 Piece Driver Bit Set performance

These Makita Impact GOLD bits hold securely in the bit sleeve as do the bits in most fasteners we tested. The snug fit Makita claims, is pretty reliable, although no matter how you design a bit if you don’t have good contact with the fastener you’ll damage both the bit and the intended fastener.

One aspect of the Magnetic Bit Holder that contributes to this issue is the Magnetic Sleeve, it chokes up high on the bit making the tip of the bit hard to see. Without a good visual of the bit and fastener, you have to rely on making good contact with the fastener purely by feel, and this can be time consuming and a bit frustrating.

On the other hand the Magnetic Sleeve allows you to hold a fastener securely, place it on your work piece, and drive it home with one hand. The sleeve allows you to put pressure on the fastener and set it in place without the fear and frustration of dropping the fastener. The sleeve is very effective and makes one handed operation a breeze compared to traditional bit holder sleeves.

What makes this Drive Bit Set worth it’s weight in Gold

The unique Slide-n-lock bit holder allows the user to see exactly what bits are available for use, and the only thing between a secure bit and a bit ready for use is the touch of a button.

And despite how ridiculous it sounds to talk about the color of the tool, the gold color of these bits are important. The unique gold color help them stand out, so if your searching for a Makita Impact GOLD bit, there is little to no chance you’ll confuse another bit for these Makita bits in a sea of bits in a compartment or cup of bits.

Overall: The Makita Ultra Magnetic Driver Bit Set is a definite buy

If you own an impact driver then you really need to invest in new bits and drivers. Bits designed for impact drivers are a must have so if you’re in the market for some new bits and want to upgrade your fastening capabilities with carefree one-handed operation this Driver Bit Set is a great option. The bits hold tight to the holder and the rare earth magnets keep your fasteners right where you want them.

These bits are available at Home Depot and everywhere Makita products are sold at the approximate cost of $19.88 to $27.99.
