Lumber Liquidators Teams Up With ShelterBox USA to Provide Safety and Shelter to Natural Disaster Survivors

ShelterBox Day, Saturday, April 3, Offers Opportunity to Help Rebuild Lives While You Embark On Home Improvement Projects

TOANO, VIRGINIA (March 30, 2010) –For many, warmer weather means it’s time for spring-cleaning and home improvement projects. For others though, it can mean tornado and hurricane season. With this in mind, Lumber Liquidators, the largest specialty retailer of hardwood flooring in the U.S., is lending a hand to ShelterBox USA’s effort to provide shelter to families around the world who have had their homes and lives devastated by disaster.

On Saturday, April 3, 2010, Lumber Liquidators will be hosting ShelterBox Day at its 197 locations nationwide. On this day, Lumber Liquidators will be raising at least $100,000 for the organization by donating five percent of all new orders placed and 100 percent of the proceeds from purchases of Bellawood Hardwood Floor Cleaner and cleaning kits on ShelterBox Day.

“People need help long after the initial impact of a natural disaster to rebuild their lives,” said Tom Sullivan, founder and Chairman of Lumber Liquidators. “One ShelterBox can provide ten people long-term warmth, protection and even children’s activities for months.”

In addition, ShelterBox Response Teams will be on hand at select Lumber Liquidators locations on April 3 to demonstrate the ShelterBox kits in action. The boxes contain enough equipment for up to ten people, is waterproof, lightweight and easily transportable. Each kit typically includes:

  • One ten-person tent
  • Vinyl-insulated sleeping mats and lightweight thermal blankets
  • Water Purification Kit (provides water for a family of ten for up to two years)
  • Two 2.1-gallon, collapsible, plastic water carriers
  • Repellent-treated mosquito netting
  • Tool kit in canvas bag: Hammer, saw, pliers, rope and pincers
  • Cooking stove
  • Kitchenware set – pots, pans, bowls, plates and cups
  • Children’s activity kit
  • Rugged 48 gallon “ShelterBox” container

“The generous donation from Lumber Liquidators’ ShelterBox Day will help provide shelter, warmth and dignity for many survivors of natural disasters this spring and summer,” states Veronica Brandon Miller, executive director, ShelterBox USA.
