Appliances, cabinets and countertops hit the priority list first when it comes to kitchen remodeling. But don’t dismiss the windows too quickly. They give your kitchen a view, fresh air, sunlit warmth and style. So when choosing new windows, consider these 5 things.

#1 – Size up the Windows

Small windows allow cabinet room and leave extra wall space. Large windows will pump plenty of sunlight into the area. On the other hand, decide whether small windows will make the space too dark, or if large windows will take up too much space and sun-bake the kitchen. Consider how much cooking privacy you want and whether window treatments will fit.

#2 – Shapes and Panes

Standard-sized and shaped windows are an easy fit for builders, blinds and shades, but sometimes, the extra cost, wait time and slight inconvenience of customization is every bit worth their appearance. In addition to shape, paneless windows create a minimalist look, whereas panes can be patterned and busy.

#3 – Point of View

The standard window centered over the kitchen sink may not have to be there after all. Throw predictable practices out the window and challenge your choice of placement. Take a walk outside before the windows are installed, and check out your view to make sure it’s not the neighbor’s HVAC unit, a parking lot or maybe an ornamental disaster.

#4 – Quantity and Quality

One window can be enough for the kitchen if it’s complemented by recessed and pendant lighting. Or you might want the kitchen flooded with natural light. Decide on the number of windows and whether you want them to open for a breeze. Next, energy efficiency is a key factor in the quality of any window you choose.

#5 – Fun Features

You can fashion a multifunctional window by deepening the ledges for colorful décor or adding a garden window in which to create a mini greenhouse. And don’t forget to outline with bold color when your windows want some extra attention.
