Get Your Central Air Conditioning Ready

Central Air Conditioning

With summer finally here I thought it might be important to remind folks of a few things to consider before you start up your central air conditioning for the summer. Central air conditioning needs to have some basic yearly maintenance to keep things running properly and effeciently. Each year you should:

  • Replace or clean filters. Typically there is a filter located at the main return duct in the house and another one at the air handler.
  • Check to be sure the compressor unit is level and there are no signs of damage. Pay special attention to the fan housing to be sure it’s not filled with debris.
  • Be sure your outdoor unit is not covered up. In order for the unit to work properly it needs adequate air supply.

It’s also a good idea to regularly hire a professional air conditioning specialist to check the coolant levels and mechanical performance.

This is also a great time to consider installing programmable thermostats if you don’t already use them. Programmable thermostats are a great way to reduce energy consumption and also improve comfort in your home. Programmable thermostats will save money over time.  Installing a programmable thermostat is an easy DIY project that most anyone can do.
