Building A Built-In Kegerator

Built-In Kegerator

A couple years ago I helped a friend design a really cool house and one of the things he wanted in the kitchen / entertaining area was a built-in kegerator so he could have fresh draft beer for parties and sports night gatherings. Building a kegerator into a kitchen design is really easy when you buy a 24″ 1/2 Draft Beer Dispenser with Tapping Equipment that’s designed to be installed under a kitchen countertop.

Basically you design the kitchen cabinets just like if you were going to install a dishwasher. These units are typically about two feet wide and about 3 feet tall. You’ll need a power source located in the back of the cabinet space and that’s about it. The built-in kegerator just slides under the finished countertop and you plug it in. You’ll need to make a whole in the countertop so you can install the keg tap. In fact, the kitchen that I was involved with we had the granite countertop pre-drilled to the specified diameter. We then placed a thin piece of plywood under the countertop to give us material to attach the tap screws into.
