Black & Decker 3.6V Lithium-Ion Pivot Driver Review

Black & Decker PD400LG Pivot Driver

Black & Decker continues to role out new products and the 3.6V Lithium-Ion Pivot Driver (PD400LG) is one of the latest new tools. Recently I wrote the SmartDriver review which is another similar low voltage driver but there is a big difference in the two. The new PD400LG Pivot Driver works in two different configurations: 90 degrees (drill style) as pictured to the right or as a stick driver (completely straight) as shown below.

PD400LG Pivot Driver Features

  • 2-Position pivoting handle for getting into tight spaces
  • LED Light ring improves visibility when working in dark areas
  • On-board bit storage for convenient bit access
  • Voltage – 3.6 V

  • Revolutions/Min – 180 rpm
  • Torque – 40 in-lbs

Product Impressions

I’ve never been a huge fan of the “stick” type drivers that were popular years ago. However, with the pivot driver you have the best of both worlds and that seems like a good design feature to have. The Pivot Driver is very comfortable in your hand and balanced well. The Pivot Driver also has a handy LED light built into the front of it to light up the work surface. Like most tools with LED lights my only gripe is I wish they could be turned on before the tool does so you can line up  your work.

The Pivot Driver is a great low voltage drill driver for small projects around the house. Definitely perfect for assembling furniture, kids toys, small electrical projects and small projects that require minimal torque. I’ve used the driver to take apart several childrens’ toys and electrical outlets that I was working on. This is definitely a handy tool to keep around the house for small tasks.

Where To Buy

Black & Decker products are available at most home centers. You can also buy it online from several sources including Amazon. The Black & Decker PD400LG costs under $30 and you can purchase it here.
