An Epic Renovation Story So Big It Takes 13 Weeks To Tell

Danny Lipford’s “Kuppersmith Project” Begins This Week on Today’s Homeowner

MOBILE, AL (February 2, 2011) – When nationally-known home expert Danny Lipford was looking for his next big project, he didn’t have to look very far. In his own backyard, was a neglected 1926 Tudor home that he knew was special, loaded with character and located in a fashionable neighborhood.

With 30 years remodeling experience under his belt, he knew what he would be getting into. The home contained its original knob and tube wiring, corroded copper plumbing, a 1950s “Mamie pink” bathroom and room after room of peeling lead paint. The 1900 square-foot home was an energy nightmare as well, with no insulation and drafty, wooden frame windows.

What happened next is the subject of the 13-part series, The Kuppersmith Project on Danny’s nationally-syndicated TV show Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford, which kicks off this week on over 200 stations nationwide (see local air times).

“This is such a great story that it took 13 episodes to tell,” says Lipford. “There are so many issues to cover: the home’s history, challenges and how best to create a sustainable, modern home.Viewers will be intrigued and they’ll learn some tricks they can use on their homes as well.”

To play on the home’s natural character, from the beginning the project took on a life of its own with Twitter and Facebook postings from the house and a website, kuppersmithproject.com, that features video blogs from the home’s point of view.  Two webcams capture daily updates.

Better Homes and Gardens took an interest in The Kuppersmith Project and assigned their Senior Designer Joseph Boehm to handle the interior of the home and furnish it with their line of furnishings.  The process and end result will be featured in Better Homes and Gardens and Renovation Style magazines in August.

Over the course of the 13-part series, over 1500 square feet will be added to the home to create a family-friendly open design that includes a master suite addition. Decisions are made to encourage a greener lifestyle by incorporating practical ways to recyle, and emphasizing indoor air quality. And the energy nightmare becomes a model of efficiency.
As for the name, it’s in honor of the family that lived there for 50 years, the Kuppersmiths. The Kuppersmith Project will run through the end of April and will re-air in June.
