DeWalt DC827KL Impact Driver Review
The DC827KL is extremely similar to the DCF826 Impact Driver that we reviewed recently. In fact, the DC827KL appears to be the same impact driver with one major difference – the XRP Lithium Ion battery pack. The XRP battery packs are slightly larger than the compact Li-Ion battery packs (like on the DCF826) which increases the battery life. This impact driver is slightly heavier too coming in 0.7 lbs heavier than the compact version.
Power & Battery Life
There’s really not much to say about the power and battery life of the XRP DC827KL impact driver. This unit was built to do some serious work and we didn’t find any limitations around our job sites. This compact “looking” impact driver packs a serious punch and makes short work of drilling holes, driving screws and installing large lag bolts/screws.
Comfort & Balance
Of all the impact drivers we’ve reviewed this is probably the most balanced model. Weighing in at under 4 lbs this compact driver feels very comfortable in your hand and it’s very easy to control. The slightly heavier battery pack actually balances the tool almost perfectly. The grip is designed very nice and fits the hand well.
Versatility
The beauty of today’s impact drivers are their versatility. The DC827KL is a tool that will handle any and all tasks that you might need help drilling/driving/torquing. As you can see in the photo above the impact driver easily accepts a standard set of 1/2 inch sockets. You can also use it to drive deck screws, self-tapping metal screws, threaded concrete screws, structural timber fasteners like lag screws and truss locks. The bottom line is this tool can pretty much eliminate most every drill/driver that you might need on the job-site.
Overall Thoughts
We really try to find at least one thing to improve upon when we review tools. Frankly this impact driver won us over and we wouldn’t change a thing about it. If you’re in the market for a serious heavy duty impact driver then the DC827KL XRP Li-Ion Impact Driver should be on your short list. Not only will the tool meet your needs but it’s battery packs are compatible with any of the other 18 volt DeWalt tools you own. Nice review Todd my DeWalt driver clutch is going from years and years of use. I may get this one. ROB
