This week I’m attending the 2011 Remodeling Show in Chicago. With new construction in the dumps remodeling seems to be the only game in town. The Remodeling Show focuses on new products that are the backbone of remodeling projects.
The Remodeling Show includes DeckExpo so you can imagine that the presence of deck products is substantial. The deck products cover everything from footing forms, fasteners, decking, railing, lighting and even furniture.
For me the most relaxing and comforting display at the show is the Wood Pavilion which features real wood products like Southern Yellow Pine and Redwood. It’s quite refreshing to sit at a real wood deck instead of all the fake plastic decks that have stormed the scene. Above is a really attractive and comfortable sitting area flanked by a beautiful Redwood pergola.
Second to outdoor projects like decks, kitchen cabinet remodeling still seems to be one of the most popular projects. The who included numerous cabinet manufacturers but I’m quite partial to a high quality line from a manufacturer that lives just down the road from me in Claremont, NH. Crown Point Cabinetry makes gorgeous high quality cabinet. If you’re not familiar with them check out their website.
They continue to develop an extensive line of coordinated urethane moldings and accessories to highlight their doors. I was really intrigued by the new line of simulated stone and timber moldings.
I also learned that Fypon moldings have a density similar to white pine. So for all of you that worry about the durability I think you should reconsider. I’ve installed the product several times and it’s performing very well!
I’ll highlight some more items from the show next week so stay tuned.
